Applied Math Modeling Partners with ANSYS to Distribute and Support CoolSim
Applied Math Modeling, Inc. has entered into an exclusive agreement with ANSYS, Inc. for the distribution, support and ongoing development of CoolSim, a product focused on modeling the thermal environment of data centers. CoolSim is a hosted product that utilizes ANSYS CFD solvers to compute the temperature, pressure and airflow within a data center.
"According to the EPA, companies can achieve up to 30 percent greater energy efficiency simply by improving the airflow within the data center, said Paul Bemis, CEO,Applied Math Modeling. With data centers consuming an estimated $4.7 billion in 2006 according to the EPA's most recent report to Congress, the opportunity for cost savings and improved efficiency is significant. The market opportunity is significant, and we are pleased that ANSYS has chosen us as a strategic partner to help IT organizations solve these important challenges.”
CoolSim uses a graphical interface to enable users to create a model of their data center. The model is then automatically submitted to a hosted server for processing where results in the form of HTML output reports and 3D visual images are produced and sent to the user. This mechanism allows users to perform multiple "what-if" studies of their data centers to determine the optimal placement of equipment, or the effect of adding equipment to an existing data center.
Pelican Products Canada Awarded Multi-Million Dollar Contract for Military Transport Case
The Canadian Military has awarded a contract for 33,000 co-polymer cases from Pelican Products, Inc. of Edmonton, Canada. The cases are to be issued to every soldier in the Canadian Forces to transport personal and military-issued equipment. The enclosure is an advanced design of Pelican’s 1630 Protector Case, and was designed and tooled with needs of the Canadian Military in mind.
Because of its versatility, the Canadian Forces have designated the case as the Multi-Operations Box (M.O.B.). In addition to the light weight polymer wall material, the case has wide, ball bearing wheels for transport over rough terrain and an extending tow handle with memory that flexes on impact. A key attribute of the case is the use of an o-ring sealing lid that closes tight with a tongue-and-groove fit. This, in combination with a Gore-Tex membrane pressure equalization valve, makes the M.O.B. case watertight.
With more than 8,250 cubic inches of usable storage space, the 1630 MOB Case is well suited for safely transporting and protecting operational and follow-on equipment including the standard Canadian Forces C7-A2 military issue rifle which stows inside the case without the need for complete weapon breakdown.
The 1630 MOB Case is designed with unique Canadian Forces requirements including a specially formulated (Federal Standard) brown case color, hot-stamped Canadian flag decal, and two removeable 4 by 6 inch clear identification document holders. These are just a few of the features required by the Canadian Forces to support military deployments throughout the world.
