Power Infrastructure Design: A Better Approach for Today's Business Problems
Our technological world has become deeply dependent upon the continuous availability of electrical power. A US study has shown that industrial and digital business firms are losing $45.7 billion per year due to power interruptions. Despite revolutionary changes in information technology (IT) and products over the past decades, the design of power infrastructure for mission critical installations like data centers and network rooms has changed very little since 1965.

Carlo Gavazzi Computing Solutions Releases 13U AdvancedATCA 633
Carlo Gavazzi Computing Solutions has introduced its new 633 series of 13U AdvancedTCA systems, designed to address demanding power requirements, thermal management challenges and network equipment-building system (NEBs) requirements of the telecommunications, enterprise and datacom marketplaces.
Designed to meet the PICMG 3.0 AdvancedTCA specification, the 633 series is available with a 14-slot dual star or full mesh backplane topology. The system features dual-redundant pigeon point systems shelf management modules and accommodates 14 AdvancedTCA boards and their RTMs. All field-replaceable units are intelligent devices and communicate to the shelf managers through the IPMI.
The 633 series is equipped with a front removable push/pull intelligent cooling system, featuring six dual fan modules to cool up to 220 watts front side and 30 watts back side. Exceeding AdvancedTCA specifications for cooling, this system is engineered to optimize power dissipation and minimize mean time to repair. The 633 Series' thermal management system also features a front-removable NEBs filtered intake.
More Versatile ‘ART-CASE’ Enclosures from OKW
OKW has extended its ergonomically shaped Art-Case series with twelve new models. These attractive and tactile enclosures have been designed for modern indoor electronics. Typical applications will include transmission and reception units in building services, medical equipment, peripherals and security devices.
The new models include newly designed screw-on access plates on the base section, which provide access to the battery compartment to replace the cells, or access to the electronics for servicing and calibration. The Art-Case is offered in two versions: the round type 110 and the oval type 160. Both versions can be specified with a smooth domed top or a flat recessed top for fitting a membrane keypad or product label. The base sections can be horizontal or inclined at 30° or 60°, with external dimensions range from 4.33 by 1.18inches to 6.30 by 4.33 by 3.74 inches.
Art-Cases are molded in off-white ABS (UL 94 HB) with black also available on request. Fast assembly is facilitated by a bayonet case locking system with no visible fixing screws and PCB mounting pillars are provided in the base and top sections.
Accessories include a battery cradle for two by 1.5 V AAA cells, a wall mounting kit and a cable clamp. OKW can supply the Art-Cases with additional holes for push-buttons, connectors and displays, plus silk-screen printed legends and logos, and RFI/EMI shielding.
Laird Technologies Offers Popular RCC Fingerstock Products as Standard Parts
Laird Technologies has released that its top 31 most popular fingerstock standard products, made from Recyclable Clean Copper, (RCC) are now available within two business days or less. Laird Technologies' RCC products are copper-based shielding gaskets that offer a beryllium-free EMI shielding solution for use in a wide range of slotted applications.
RCC products offer similar performance characteristics to beryllium copper (BeCu) products and will work in 80 percent of all applications where BeCu is now used. RCC products do not contain beryllium giving customers who want to avoid the use of beryllium containing metals and who wish to avoid certain price increases, a choice in alloy selections. The new metal alloy that Laird Technologies' utilizes comes from two different reliable sources, one in Europe and one in Asia.
RCC material provides better stress relaxation properties than many other solutions which customers have resorted to because they have so few alloy choices. RCC's stress relaxation properties allow it to maintain pressure longer at the contact points resulting in higher end product quality and longer system life spans in multiple industry applications.
RCC parts are well suited for customers in several industries including telecom, automotive, computer and storage, handsets, medical instrumentation and power supplies. Prices range from 15 cents to more than $4.80 each with an average sales price between 45 and 79 cents. These prices compare favorably to current BeCu pricing and become even more advantageous as the overall cost for BeCu increases.

Jaro Thermal Releases Super-Flow Turbo Series Fans
Jaro Thermal has introduced a high flowing, 27 CFM new Super-Flow Turbo series of synergized, back to back fans that produce a static pressure of 1.4 inches in H20. Measuring in at 40 mm by 48 mm, the AD0412XB Turbo's fixed-blade design maximizes static pressure, while at the same time, its slick air-gliding frame optimizes air flow.
Jaro Thermal's Super-Flow Turbo is well suited for power supply applications where ultra-high output is required. To exceed today's toughest environmental requirements, available options now include an extended temperature rating of -30°C to 90°C, IP-55 water protection, on-board PWM control, alarm output, tachometer output, thermistor controls and more.
Apex Imax Offers a New Level of Surge Protection
Transtector Systems has released its newest invention in surge protection research and development, the Apex Imax. The Apex Imax provides added surge protection performance to mission critical applications such as lightning, surge and fault current mitigation.
Rated at 65 kA AIC fault current and tested to 160 kA 8/20µs per IEC 61643-1, the Apex Imax achieves low voltage let-through and high current handling capability. It utilizes a combination of fast-acting, low clamp silicon avalanche suppressor diode (SASD) and metal oxide varistor (MOV) technologies to achieve protection against all transient surge anomalies. All Apex Imax units are listed to the latest revision of the UL 1449 2nd Edition standard. The Apex Imax is also Motorola R56 2005 certified, designed to meet current industry requirements.
The Apex Imax is available in a NEMA 12 steel enclosure or NEMA 4X fiberglass composite enclosure, SASD/MOV hybrid or MOV technology and various electrical configurations. As all of Transtector's Apex series, the Imax utilizes modular surge cards for user-friendly installation and maintenance.
